Ask a Question
As an Artist, is MY Art Considered an Asset During Divorce?
I’m a painter. My unsold work has a high value. Is this considered an asset during a divorce?
1 Answer
If your art work was produced during the marriage it would be considered marital property and subject to equitable distribution. If your only source of income isfrom selling your work it could also be considered as income for support, but not both. If it is used as income for support it cannot also be distributed. Likewise, if it is distributed as an asset it cannot be used as support.
