The first important point in time is the date of marriage.
The second important point in time is the date of separation. This date may or may not be easily determined. Many clients continue to reside together despite being physically or financially separated. In some cases, the court has to conduct a hearing to make a decision regarding the date of separation.
The final important point in time is the date the assets and/or debts will be distributed.
Regardless of which process you choose for your divorce (Mediation, Collaborative or Litigation), information about your assets and debts at these critical times is important.
